Ed Nicholson - Capitol City Lumber
I'm excited to announce that we've rebranded and started a new podcast!
Welcome to Owner Operated: Conversations with Small Business Millionaires.
Click the photo below for a link to the podcast.
You can listen to the podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Google, and Stitcher.
For most of my life, I've held negative misconceptions about business owners. I used to think most of them didn't care about their employees and that they were running their businesses only to make money.
That belief changed when I started having conversations with real small business owners through my job at MidStreet. I found out that many owners are some of the most giving, nicest people you'll meet.
Now my mission is to get the word out that small business ownership is a GOOD thing.
If you're interested in small business, are thinking about owning your own business, or already do, this podcast is for you. It'll give you a chance to listen in on valuable conversations you otherwise wouldn't have access to.
Since you're signed up for the newsletter, I'll send you an email every Wednesday with topics from each episode and a link to the show.
I'm excited that you're here with me for this journey - let's get started!
You'll see two episodes so far. Episode 0 is an introduction to the podcast and why I'm so passionate about small business.
If you're curious to learn more about me and what this project is all about, give this first show a listen; it's < 7 minutes long.
Episode 1 features my conversation with Ed Nicholson, owner of Capitol City Lumber Company in Raleigh, North Carolina. Length is <1 hour.
Ed and I spoke about:
- The dynamics involved with owning a 70-year old family business
- The importance of not being over-leveraged
- Advantages of staying small
- Managing isolation as a business owner
- The benefits of having a partner with a different skillset
- Having your finger on the pulse of your company's books
- Life outside the business matters - pastel art & family time
Let me know what you think of the show. I'm always looking for constructive feedback. I'm still working to get everything set up, but if you have any comments I'd love to hear them.
I have a bunch of awesome conversations planned, and I'm excited to share them with you. See you next Wednesday!
